Pay no attention to the junk piled behind the tree that I didn't notice you could see when I took this picture with my phone

Well hello, long-hibernating tabletop tree that I bought for Shoebox Manor—my first elfin Chicago apartment—and that eventually became our dining-room tree when my ex and I bought our palatial two-tree-accommodating condo. I finally rescued the tree when I liquidated my storage unit this summer, and at last its branches are complete again in their mélange of silver, white and cornflower blue ornaments, ribbons and besequined birds artfully curated to complement our old Wedgewood dining room. The palette doesn’t quite work with my mom’s Rustic Kountree Krafts décor, but I choose to squint and pretend it does. Plus I did a sloppy job perching the birds on the branches so I’ll have to edit some pokey-outy feathered tails at a later date.

I wasn’t really in the mood for Christmas carols, but I found an old Chicago playlist so I decorated the tree to the dulcet—and wistfully nostalgic—tones of Beautiful Day, Ray of Light, Around the World, Bad Romance, Get Lucky, Single Ladies, Whispering Your Name and other regular-rotation players from the soundtrack of my old life. The combination of my Chicago tree and my Chicago tunes put me in a mood I’m not sure I’m ready to be in, but the corner is dusted and vacuumed, the tree is up, and all that’s left to do is figure out where I hid my timer so the lights will automatically be on every night when I go to bed and every morning when I wake up.

Speaking of going to bed ... good night!

Dear LORD that was a long day

I cleared some stuff out of my storage unit, sold a ton of books (for a meager $20, but still), learned choreography for 4.5 hours with a delightfully talented choreographer and a cast of dancers half my age, did a show that was spiced up with a tornado delay and a couple dropped lines on my part, emptied the litter box, decided to sleep with my gross wrist wound unbandaged to see how it survives a night in the open air, and took a helicopter selfie with Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged neck creases (too soon?) in our Kountry Krafts guest room where I’m still sleeping because the final push of my bedroom project has become kind of overwhelming. Good night!

Bitch Kitty says good night!

She also says KEEP YOUR BITCH ASS DOWNSTAIRS OR I SWEAR ON ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY I WILL TEAR OPEN YOUR CAROTID. But for now let’s just focus on good night.

The bows are bowed,

the set is struck, the goodbyes are hugged, the nipples have been recaptured and reincarcerated after their escape, the show socks and underwear and complimentary tearaway thongs are in the wash ... and what is one of my all-time favorite show experiences has finally, bittersweetly, proudly and very-happy-memoriedly come to an end.

Good night!

Nobody ALL DAY noticed my limited-edition one-of-a-kind totally unique "JAKE The Musical!" T-shirt

And I had to take this selfie lying down because my face feels creasy and wrinkly and this is the only way short of surgery or witchcraft to smooth it out. But we had an AWESOME opening night and the audience laughed and cheered and my lovely Guvnors family was ridiculously silly and we had a delightful little cast party to celebrate and now I'm taking my creases and my wrinkles and my tragically overlooked T-shirt and my happy glowy memories of the evening and we're all going to bed. Good night!
